All our books have been previously used, some of course are quite old. There might be yellowing on some of the original pages, you might find an old library stamp or the original owners name etc. inside the cover. This all undoubtedly adds to the magic and charm of our unique books.
Excellent – outer appearance is just about perfect for a book of this age
Very Good – Outer appearance may have a slight mark or tiny stain or slight wear on corners.
Good – Outer appearance may have markings or creases – wear on corners (hardbacks).
All these unique imperfections are considered as part of the character and charm of the book – not as a defect!

Well not really. Books can’t just be put in a paper recycling bank as the covers are made from different materials and they have glue in the spines. In some cases they can be pulped but this is only done in large quantities.
Recycling takes up far more energy (water, electric, transportation etc) than reusing does. Reusing is always a better environmental option.

Many of are from a local Charity who have an excess of books. This maybe because there are simply too many to sell in their shops, because they are damaged or too dirty. In some cases the subject matter is just too obscure to sell on the High Street!

Many, but not all. We are now receiving donations of old books from our customers who would rather they were ‘rebound’ than go to a charity shop where they may possibly be thrown away.

All our processes are manual and require no power or fuel other than good old fashioned elbow grease!
We recycle any paper leftovers, and save off cuts for smaller notebooks so our waste is minimal.

No, they are wire bound with ‘double loop’ wire binds which are very sturdy and effective. These allows books to lay flat and be turned 360°.

Yes! It is called ‘damaged’ paper which comes from a local paper mill.

We prefer to use reclaimed paper for our books rather than recycled paper because although recycled paper is great – and certainly better than brand new paper – making recycled paper still takes a lot of energy and resources. We think reclaimed paper is a better environmental option.

Our paper is 150gsm which is quite thick, and excellent quality. It can be used for pen, ink, pencil and even watercolour.

It is a journal or a notebook made out of an old book. It uses the covers of an old book and contains, in most cases, a selection of pages of the old book interspersed with ‘new’ reclaimed paper. It is hand made and each one is totally unique. Each is ‘rebound’ with a quality wire binding and custom made to your specifications. Choose lined paper, diary, bookmark made from the spine etc.
